Learn all of the techniques you need to be on your way to making art quilts with paint, fabric, fusible web applique and more!
Make the leaves from your choice of fabrics and burnish them with metallic rub-on paints. It is like fingerpainting! Assemble your design with fusible web applique on a fall color background and you are on your way to a beautiful art quilt. Patterns for the leaves and branch will be provided as well as instructions to complete your 22” x 30” wall hanging at home. Sewing machine in good working order is needed for class to begin the assembly of the quilt. Intermediate skill level.
Supplies for 22” wide x 30” long wall hanging
- Sewing machine in good working order
- Cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter
- ½ yard fall color print fabric for background
- ¾ yard fabric for borders and binding
- ¼ yard fabric for flange
- Fat quarters or large scraps of fabric in fall colors for leaves. Bring enough to make a dozen or more leaves, two in each fabric. Be sure the leaf colors show up on your background.
- Fat quarter of fabric for branch. Be sure it shows up on your background.
- 24” x 32” piece of batting
- 24” x 32” piece of fabric for backing
- Variegated and solid threads in fall colors
- Two yards of Lt. Steam-A-Seam 2 fusible web
- Metallic Rub-on 7 color paint set. Craft-T Products brand (available at Cottonwood)
- Piece of cardboard about 8 ½” x 11”
- Paper towels
- Moist wipes for cleaning your hands
- Pencil, eraser, white marking pencil, small sharp scissors, paper scissors, straight pins
- Small insect charms or buttons for embellishment (optional)
- Your lunch and a drink
