Join us at our bright and inspiring classroom to learn the basic steps in quilting: choosing fabric, following a pattern, cutting the pieces, sewing the pieces, creating a "quilt sandwich," quilting and binding to finish a quilt and all the tips and tricks in between to making a beautiful quilt.
We will meet two weeks in February and two weeks in March. We have provided for this break in order for you to catch up on homework before the final two classes.
Our experienced teacher Julie Antinucci will guide you step-by-step to make this fun quilt top designed for American Patchwork and Quilting magazine called Positive Effect! This quilt will measures 44" square. You will choose your own colors and fabrics at Cottonwood or pull from your stash. We are happy to help you choose some great fabrics from our shop!

Materials you will need for this class:
- Working knowledge of your functioning sewing machine with a quarter inch foot for piecing and a walking foot for quilting that you can bring to class
- Sewing machine manual, or access to it electronically
- A cutting mat
- a 45 mm rotary cutter
- quilt ruler (6" x 24" recommended)
- Writing pen and paper and your printed pattern
- Pins
- Safety pins
- Thread for piecing and quilting like gutternman or Aurifil

Fabric Requirements:
- We will be making the 44.5" version of the quilt that is listed in the fabric requirements section of the Positive Effect quilt pattern. For this quilt you will need:
- Nine 9" x 21" pieces of fabrics (Fat eighths) for blocks. This could also be lots of different scraps, if you'd like.
- 1 yard of background fabric (the quilt pattern shows a linen color, but you can use whatever color you'd like)
- 3 yards of backing fabric
- 53" square piece of batting or larger. Batting type is your choice. Cottonwood offers many options.
- We will be making the 44.5" version of the quilt that is listed in the fabric requirements section of the Positive Effect quilt pattern. For this quilt you will need:
The three yards of backing fabric can be purchased later, toward the final week of class

- Iron and Iron board
- Quilt Pattern

There are several ways to finish a quilt top: quilting it by machine, quilting it by hand, having it long-arm quilting by a professional longarmer, renting time on a longarm, etc. This class will be focused on finishing the quilt with your domestic sewing machine with basic quilting with a walking foot.
