Clover & Bloom is a modern two-block quilt designed by local quilt designer Jennifer Worth of Slightly Biased Quilts.  The magic of this quilt happens at the intersections — secondary shapes emerge as Block 1 and Block 2 come together across the quilt top. The pattern is available in multiple sizes, so you can make anything from a baby quilt to a queen. We recommend the lap sized!  It's a manageable size if you decide you want to quilt it on your own, either on a domestic machine or a longarm quilting machine.

This class is built around one core skill: making half-square triangles that are all exactly the same size, with points that don't get chopped off when you assemble blocks.

Specifically, you'll learn:

• How to test and adjust your 1/4" seam allowance so your piecing is accurate from the very first seam

• The oversize-and-trim method for HSTs (no math anxiety — we provide the chart)

• A pinning trick that dramatically improves accuracy along the diagonal seam

• How to trim HSTs quickly and consistently using a dedicated trimming ruler (the June Taylor Perfect Half Square Triangle)

What you'll leave with after the first two-hour session:

• One completed Block 1 and one completed Block 2

• A stack of perfectly trimmed HSTs to keep working with at home

• The mastery of the technique 

• A handout with the HST chart and key reminders

During the second two-hour session, we will continue to work on constructing the quilt.  You may not get the entire quilt top finished by the end of the second session, but you should be well on your way and will master several techniques that will prepare you for for other quilting projects in the future!

This class is for advanced beginners who are comfortable using a sewing machine, rotary cutter, and ruler, and who can sew a reasonably accurate 1/4" seam. If you've made a quilt or two and want to level up your precision, this is the class for you!

To make the most of our class time, **all fabric cutting must be completed before you arrive.**  If you're newer to rotary cutting or unsure about the cutting instructions, please reach out — we're happy to help.

Required Materials:

• The Clover and Bloom Pattern (pick up your pattern anytime after registering)
• June Taylor Perfect Half Square Triangle Trimmer Ruler
• Your sewing machine
• Power cord, foot pedal, and your machine's manual (just in case)
• A spare bobbin
• A fresh needle installed (80/12 universal is perfect)
• Pins (fine glass-head pins work best)
• Snips or small scissors
• Seam ripper
• Marking pen
• Thread
• All fabric, cut according to the Clover & Bloom pattern (fabric requirements are listed on the image included in this listing). The lap size or smaller is suggested.  This is a more manageable size for beginners.
