Course Overview:
- Fabric Collage Techniques: Discover the art of layering and fusing fabrics to create unique designs and compositions. Learn foundational techniques for arranging materials to build texture, color, and depth.
- Narrative Stitching: Explore the expressive power of hand sewing. Beyond mere construction, stitching will be treated as a form of drawing and storytelling. Students will learn various decorative and functional stitches, including the running stitch, backstitch, French knots, and lazy daisy, to add detail, define shapes, and infuse their work with personal meaning.
- Embellishment & Texture: Experiment with a diverse palette of materials—from vintage linens to buttons, beads, and found objects—to add three-dimensional interest and a tactile quality to your work.
Who is this class for?
This class is perfect for beginners curious about textile arts, as well as experienced sewers, quilters, and mixed-media artists looking to expand their creative toolkit. No prior hand-sewing or collage experience is required. A passion for color, texture, and storytelling is all you need.
Materials:
Bring a mix of supplies including a variety of fabric scraps, needles, and a selection of threads. Students are encouraged to bring personal fabrics, meaningful scraps, or small mementos to incorporate into their unique project. We will also supply some of these materials to share with the class, as well as the Wood foundation of the roll in various forms: dowels, sticks, clothespins, etc, from which you can choose.
Join us and turn a simple strip of fabric into a miniature masterpiece of texture and color.
