President Theordore Roosevelt called December 7th, 1941 the "day that will live in infamy." This was the day that Pearl Harbor was attached by Japan. We felt it fitting to launch the Cottonwood "Sewing Stars" chapter of the Quilts of Valor program on this day, December 7, 2025.
Join us from 12 - 3 for a special Quilts of Valor meet and greet to learn more about supporting our nation's veterans and service members by providing quilts of comfort. This event is a fantastic opportunity for fellow quilters to connect, share their passion, and contribute to the Quilts of Valor Foundation's mission to provide comforting and healing quilts to those touched by war. Each new member will receive a Cottonwood "Sewing Star" patch, unique to our chapter!
At this meeting, we will kick off our chapter by planning future meetings, making goals and learning about the Quilt of Valor program and rules for quilts. We will also have time to sew if you'd like to jump right in. We will have some patterns and fabrics available. Please feel free to bring your own. And bring your machine, if you plan on sewing!
Can't make this meeting? Stay tuned for additional dates in 2026! We also plan to offer some remote Zoom sewing meetings.
What we'll be doing at future meetings
- Quilting for Heroes: We will be working on creating and finishing Quilts of Valor. Bring your own projects or work on one of our group projects.
- Skill Sharing: This is a great chance to learn new techniques, share your expertise, and help fellow quilters in their Quilt of Valor journey. We encourage both machine and hand quilting.
- Veteran Tribute: The event will culminate with a special presentation of completed quilts to local veterans to honor their service and sacrifice.
How to get involved
- Contribute a quilt top: If you have a Quilt of Valor top ready, bring it along to be quilted by our LongArmy Volunteers.
- Bring your own project: Quilters are welcome to work on their own QOV projects. Please ensure they meet the foundation's size and quality requirements.
- Make a quilt block: For those who can't attend in person, consider making a block or two or more! We will assemple them into a quilt. Please use red, white and blue fabrics.
- Support our veterans: Even if you can't sew, your presence and support are invaluable to the veterans we will be honoring.
Why your participation matters:
Every quilt you help create is a symbol of gratitude and a source of comfort for those who have served our country. Come and be a part of this meaningful effort to give back to our veterans.
Any QOV fabrics or other materials purchased at Cottonwood will receive a discount at purchase.
