Join us for a special sew-in day on August 2nd with the Quilts of Valor group the "Sewing Stars" where we bring all of our strippy scraps -- red, white, and blue, and some yellow -- to make string quilt blocks!
New to the group and want to contribute to the Quilts of Valor Foundation's mission to provide comforting and healing quilts to those touched by war? Come to the meeting with your sewing machine and some fabric. We are going to be working as a group on these blocks, socializing, and learning! If you're new to quilting but are familiar with your sewing machine, you can learn a new technique AND help make a quilt for a deserving veteran!
What we'll be doing at the sew-in:
- Quilting for Heroes: We will be working on creating and finishing Quilts of Valor.
-
Skill Sharing: This is a great chance to learn new techniques, share your expertise, and help fellow quilters in their Quilt of Valor journey.
- Veteran Tributes: Our efforts will culminate with a special presentation of completed quilts to local veterans to honor their service and sacrifice. Have someone you'd like to nominate to receive a quilt? Please let us know!
How to get involved
- Contribute a quilt top: If you have a Quilt of Valor top ready, bring it along to be quilted by our LongArmy Volunteers.
- Bring your own project: Quilters are welcome to work on their own QOV projects at this sew along too. Please ensure they meet the foundation's size and quality requirements.
- Make a quilt block: For those who can't attend in person, consider making a block or two or more! We will assemple them into a quilt. Please use red, white and blue fabrics.
- Support our veterans: Even if you can't sew, your presence and support are invaluable to the veterans we will be honoring.
Why your participation matters:
Every quilt you help create is a symbol of gratitude and a source of comfort for those who have served our country. Come and be a part of this meaningful effort to give back to our veterans.

Any QOV fabrics or other materials purchased at Cottonwood will receive a discount at purchase. Feel free to tonight fabrics for this effort as well. That's a great way to support the effort even if you can't attend meetings.
The finished size for the string quilt block will be 12". You can't make the sew along but want to contribute to our string quilt, trim blocks to an unfinished 12.5" square.
What can you bring to this special String Quilt Day? Any length of cotton fabric scraps, in strips from 1" and up.
