Every student must complete a beginner workshop before taking the regular six week sessions. These are scheduled at convenient after-school times. Register here: Beginner Workshop.
Once you've completed that introductory class, you are free to register your child for this next six week session. There are four students to a class and each class can have kids working on different units. This helps develop that sense of community between the kids!

The Sewciety Kids Sewing Program is a sewing curriculum for kids ages 7 and up. The Program takes a skill-building approach, starting with simpler projects and introducing new concepts and techniques as students progress. At Cottonwood, each class is limited to four students to ensure the hands-on approach between student and teacher, and Cottonwood provides the sewing machines they use in class. There will be kids in various levels in the six week class. This enable kids to jump in at anytime. Newer kids can see the projects they will work on as they progress. And the kids in more advanced levels have the chance to show their skills to the newer kids!
Kids are exposed to all aspects of sewing including: quilting, garment sewing, accessories, embroidery, applique. They can take classes for four years (Completing Levels 1-4) and never repeat a project!
WHAT IS IN A SIX WEEK SESSION?
Level 1 | UNIT 1 - learn to sew a patchwork pillow and make an upcycled tee during this 6 week session. All patterns and fabric are included in the class fee. While making the pillow, you'll learn the basics of patchwork, sewing straight seams, quilting and envelope pillow construction. The upcycled tee will improve straight seam sewing and will teach seam finishing and top-stitching.
LEVEL 1 | UNIT 2 - learn to sew an apron and a pair of pajamas in this six week session. You have to complete Unit 1 to take Unit 2. This unit will cover the following skills: sewing curved seams, notching seam allowances, making pockets, taking body measurements to determine size, basic pant construction, making a casing, making an elastic waistband, and hemming
LEVEL 1 | UNIT 3 - Sewciety Kids Level 1 Unit 3 focuses on creating two projects: the "Tote-ally Easy Tote" and either the "Whitney Skirt" or the "Huxley Hat." Key skills learned include sewing curved seams, notching seam allowances, making pockets, and using body measurements for size determination. The unit builds on the basic skills from previous units to introduce more complex construction techniques.
All students must bring their own tools weekly:
