Stamp Carving Squares Workshop -Design, Carve, & Print your own custom Stamp with Mary Soucy
Class fee: $65
The possibilies are endless with stamps! Once you learn the techniques of carving stamps from lino, you will want to apply your custom stamps to all of your projects whether it's a quilting project, bag making, mixed media, or perhaps a special card to send your favorite person!
In this class you will learn many approaches to custom stamp making. Stamp designs can be made using numerous methods of drawing or transfer. You do not need to know how to draw to do this. Once a design has been applied to the carving surface you will use a carving tool to remove rubber until the image is ready for stamping.
The stamp you carve will be appropriate for use with permanent and/or water-based ink and paint. This makes stamp carving ideal for paper or fabric surfaces. Whether you are a paper crafter or fiber artist, this class will allow you to add handmade touches to your creations. And our fun classroom atmosphere will get your creativity flowing!
In this beginner level class, we will focus on squares and tiles. The humble square is a great first step to get you started with pattern design while you learn how to stamp artfully and evenly throughout a design. We will primarily work on paper, but you will also be able to try stamping on fabric to get comfortable with how each medium feels and works.
One carving block will be provided. This is enough material to make two tiles. More supplies will be available both in store and in class. Written materials and transfer images will also be provided.
If you have them, please bring the folowing:
(However, if you are just curious and don't want to purchase all of the supplies we will have tools for you to borrow)
Outlets are available at the tables. This work can be small. Bring what you need to see better. The classroom lights are generally very bright.
